Sergey V. Umansky is Doctor of Med. Sc., Professor of the department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Psychotherapy of the Advanced Training and Professional Development of Tyumen State Medical Academy, head psychotherapist of the Directorate General of Health Services of Kurgan region. He was born in 1957. He graduated the medical faculty of Tyumen State Medical Academy in 1981. In 1998, he defended his candidate dissertation entitled “Mental borderline disorders of patients with impaired motor-evacuation function of the large intestine and their psychotherapy”. In 2008, he defended his doctoral dissertation “Dynamics of borderline mental disorders (clinical, prognostic and synergetic approaches)” in the dissertation council in the Mental Health Research Centre department, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in Tomsk.

Sergey V. Umansky specializes in the field of psychotherapy, hypno-suggestive psychotherapy, and psychosomatics. He has more than 130 scientific publications, including 2 monographs “Clinical hypnosis” and “Autohypnosis”. He is also a co-writer of the 4 scientific editions: “The evolution of chaos, or synergetic psychotherapy”, “Essays on hysteria”, “Introduction into psychological counseling”, and “Psychology of personality: Texts”. He also has 2 innovation proposals.

Sergey V. Umansky works as a doctor psychotherapist in Kurgan regional hospital. He delivers lectures on “Safety psychology”, “Psychological counseling”, “Psychology of personality”, “Law psychiatry”, and “Psychology of loneliness”.

Sergey V. Umansky combines scientific, practical and pedagogical activities with organizational work. He took part in creating the first psychotherapeutic support groups in general medical and preventive hospitals in Kurgan; he prompted the implementation of group psychotherapy methods in treating somatic and psychosomatic patients. In 2006, he was appointed head specialist in psychotherapy of the Directorate General of Health Services of Kurgan region. In 2008, Sergey V. Umansky coordinated the gubernatorial project “Men’s mental health”. Since 2012, Sergey V. Umansky has been working as professor of the department of Psychiatry, Narcology and Psychotherapy of the Advanced Training and Professional Development of Tyumen State Medical Academy.
